MEANING OF THE TÍTLE Angor is a Latin term associated with anguish, oppression and asphyxia. It comes from the verb angere, which means to squeeze, strangle or suffocate. The work arises from the persistence of harm: from something that happened at a certain moment in life but, long after it has ended, still exerts its pressure in the present. ABOUT THE WORK The central figure withdraws into itself, bringing its hands together in an agonizing gesture that oscillates between supplication and suffocation. Around it, disproportionate and fragmented forms invade the space, turning the torment into something continuous, impossible to locate. The white strokes and splashes tear through the darkness of the canvas like interference from an overwhelmed mind. We no longer know whether the threat remains outside or has become part of the one who suffered it. The body tries to protect itself from a violence that no longer needs to recur in order to keep existing. Memory has acquired its own presence. ANGOR does not depict the moment in which the harm is inflicted, but what remains when that moment never truly disappears.
