MEANING OF THE TITLE Numen refers to a presence or a powerful force that manifests itself and whose magnitude surpasses whoever contemplates it. It is something that is felt before it can be fully understood, and that evokes, at the same time, fascination, respect and fear. Applied to the artwork, the term represents the emergence of an unknown inner power. A force that has always belonged to the individual, but whose existence is only discovered when it finally reveals itself in all its magnitude. ABOUT THE WORK A figure remains collapsed into itself, bent and enclosed in a position that conveys vulnerability. In front of it appears the monumental presence of a horse, powerful and dominant, whose energy contrasts with the state of the man. However, the horse and the man are not two separate beings. The animal is the materialization of a force that belongs to the individual himself: an inner power previously unknown, which takes form and presents itself before him. This encounter does not provoke an immediate reaction of strength. Faced with the enormity of what he discovers within himself, the man is overwhelmed, withdraws into himself and even seems to feel fear. Recognizing one's own power can be as disturbing as facing one's own fragility. But this force does not appear to subdue him; it is there because it is part of him. The horse leans towards the figure as a presence that demands to be recognized, reminding him that even in his deepest moment of decline there exists within him a power capable of lifting him up and driving him to fight. Numen thus represents the vertigo of discovering one's own strength: the moment in which an individual, still trapped in his weakness, faces for the first time the dimension of what he carries within. A power that can intimidate him precisely because he has not yet learned to master it, but which has always been there, waiting to be recognised.
