Between the Bars
mixed media, 80 × 60 cm
Piano Bar series
"Between the Bars" is a painting built on a subtle tension between figuration and geometric abstraction. The central female figure, shown in profile, emerges from a rhythmic structure of verticals, arcs, rectangles, and semicircular forms. Her closed eyes and calm facial expression suggest a state of concentration, suspension, or inner listening.
The composition of the painting resembles a musical score translated into the language of painting. Geometric divisions function like bars, rests, and chords, between which a human presence emerges—delicate, sensual, almost muted. The figure does not dominate the space but is inscribed within it, like a voice within the structure of a musical piece.
The color palette is based on elegant, subdued tones: navy blues, browns, beiges, blacks, grays, and accents of rusty red. This gives the painting the atmosphere of an intimate setting—an evening bar, a jazz club, a place where sound, light, and gesture intertwine.
In the Piano Bar series, the painting can be read as a reflection on the moment of silence between sounds. It is in this pause—between one bar and the next—that the tension, emotion, and intimacy of experience are revealed.
