Painting description

Cool blue spills across the image, shot through with the moon’s yellow and tiny pinks of flowers. The composition leads the eye in an arc from the leaning tree on the right to the shadow of a figure on the left, and further across the luminous clearing, where a slender girl whirls. The brushes have left thick, rough textures, as if the artist scratched the surface and mixed the paint with their fingers. The atmosphere is misty and dreamlike. Quiet, a little uneasy, but beautiful. The little girl dances like a fairy and goes hop-hop. It seems to me it’s a dance of courage in the face of the dark. The style fuses impressionism with fairy-tale symbolism; the light is almost music. I feel a slight shiver and would really like to step into that bright moment, though I know it’s only a painterly trick.
