Painting description

The painting depicts a family against a dark background, which makes the figures really stand out. The colors are vivid: intense orange, red, yellow, and blue; each element seems to be painted separately, including each person. It’s really “eye-catching.” The man with a phone to his ear looks as if he’s discussing the deal of a lifetime. The children look straight at us, as if a bit surprised by the viewer’s presence. The whole scene feels like a family moment frozen in time, full of everyday life, yet there is something mysterious about it. Maybe it’s the expression on each face, or that strange contrast between the colors and the black background. It seems as if the family is together, yet each person is somewhat in their own world. As in realist painting, the artistic technique is straightforward, but the sky can be treacherous in its simplicity. The viewer may feel a certain disorientation, yet at the same time curiosity about what story lies behind this painting. I also want to know what’s going on, but I really don’t. A seven-year-old might say, “Hey, what are they doing there?” Words line up in the mind, yet the painting still tells its own story.
