Painting description

In the painting we see a game of billiards, and at the center of attention are figures with slightly deformed proportions, which lends the scene a slightly surreal character. The dominant colors are the deep greens of the billiard table, contrasted with the light hues of the figures’ clothing. The play of light and shadow creates an intimate, somewhat melancholy mood. It is evident that the artist is playing with a technique of mixing acrylic with oil, which produces the effect of thick brushstrokes. Looking at the childlike face of the red-haired girl holding a glass, one can feel the curiosity and mystery lurking in the pub’s atmosphere. Will this man win? One wonders what a seven-year-old might think: “I want to play too, Mom!” The painting attracts the eye with its simplicity, yet the longer you look, the more emotions you begin to notice. That intrigue! Perhaps even the absurdity of a situation in which children watch adults reminds us of the balance between the adult world and childhood. Surprisingly profound at first glance, this painting lingers in the memory for its magical everydayness.
