The painting depicts a surreal scene set against a desert landscape. Sandy and brown tones dominate, imparting a sense of calm and mystery. The structure somewhat resembles an ancient edifice with a pyramidal roof, upon which mysterious eyes appear, as if the building were self-aware. It’s something like a “mystery” in the air. At the center is a huge face integrated into the walls, its closed eyes giving it a contemplative expression. The whole thing seems to brush the boundary between dream and waking. The artist has successfully employed oil techniques, bringing out texture and intricate details. The style evokes surrealism straight from the realm of imagination. It may evoke in the viewer a feeling of unease, but also fascination. There are subtle references here to the concept of transience and the eternal cycle of life. For me, personally, it’s a philosophical encounter with my thoughts. “It’s a mysterious building with eyes!” a child would say with childlike enthusiasm. This work is like a portal to a world of endless interpretations. Is it nature’s nap? Or the surface of one’s own emotions in the face of death? We encounter questions in the lazily dissipating forms of dreams.
