Painting description

signed on the reverse on canvas: 2017 | E. DWURNIK | NO.: XXV [in frame] – 389 [in frame] | 7067 [in frame, next to it a sign of crossed arrows], below: 389 [in frame] "Series XXV" was Dwurnik's complete break with representational painting. The artist, inspired by the work of Jackson Pollock and his method of work (he visited Pollock's studio on Long Island), devoted himself to the joy of creation. As Bogusław Deptuła writes in the introduction to the catalogue of the exhibition in Sopot in 2018: The authenticity of space on the one hand, and the unlimited freedom that such a way of personal expression gives on the other, could have been the deciding factor in moving to this side after years of working off the posts, practiced in the form of inserting countless windows into the facades of buildings, which had to be painted on a thousand city views. It is a very seductive art for a painter enslaved by his own painting method: pouring, splashing, spattering, rubbing, throwing, pouring, splattering. Maybe this is the absolute freedom he experienced in his personal and probably very intense contact with works and places. Recalling his first paintings from the series "Hitchhiking Travels", Dwurnik considered them almost abstract, very precisely constructed, evenly saturated. He said about his new abstractions: When I now saturate abstractions, when I spray them, paint them, when I pour paint on them, I go back to those first paintings, but today it is much easier for me, because there is no longer that tension, that burden that I have to tell something, that I have to be involved in some just cause. This statement by Edward Dwurnik was included in an interview given to Anna Maria Potocka on the occasion of the Thanks to Jackson exhibition at the Bunkier Sztuki in Krakow in 2005, where a large presentation of Dwurnik's abstract paintings took place.
