Painting description

On a light, almost white background, an undulating line of riders and horses sweeps along. Black, graphite, and navy patches set a rhythm of angular forms. The horizontal composition hurtles to the left, the leading horse tearing through space like an arrowhead. The contour dissolves; what remains are wedges, ragged rectangles, and swift wipes. You can almost hear the hooves, and I’m already in motion, my gaze stumbling a little; the mood is tense. The technique is a living gesture, with impasto in places, streaks of dry brush, and the glide of paint. A semi-abstract style with an echo of Futurism, without pretension, more human. Shapes fuse and peel apart like hurried snapshots. The horses race very fast and go splash-splash. I feel the shiver of the start, and the foremost silhouette gathers momentum. Those supposed mistakes and splatters do the trick; they hum pleasantly.
