Figurativism is a trend in art (visible especially in sculpture and painting) consisting in depicting people, animals and objects in their true shapes and dimensions. It developed in the first half of the twentieth century and gained repeated popularity several decades later, in the seventies. Over the years, this direction has changed its face, drawing on various artistic trends and trends. Figurative art has developed in both Europe and the United States. This trend is considered the opposite of the art of abstractionism. The paintings created in the style of figurativism are characterized by strong outline and intense colors, richness of composition and presentation of a kind of controlled chaos, which was supposed to result in the recipient thinking about the artist's intentions. Artists were not afraid to combine various means of expression and arrangement in their works. The theme of figurative works of the first half of the 20th century is usually the city and agglomeration, as well as the everyday life of their inhabitants. In the seventies, on the other hand, the paintings mainly depicted human experiences and emotions, using a variety of symbols and deformations. The most famous creators of figurative art include, among others: Jackson Pollock, Francis Bacon, Willem de Koonig, Alberto Giacometti and Antonio Saura.
