Painting description

Undertaking this subject as an oil painting a was part of my first-year art college education in 1963 (some 49 years ago!). It was presented at the end of my pre-diploma year and the resulting pass enabled me to continue at Manchester College of Art and complete my course. As a child I was fascinated with aircraft - my father was aircrew for both the Polish and Royal Air Forces during WW2 - and making aircraft models from balsa wood formers covered with tissue paper... and planes were the subject of many childhood fantasy drawings as well as this painting, completed a few years before "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines" hit the cinema screen in 1965. This piece is my second earliest surviving oil painting - apart from four others in private hands sold during the 1960s - and being offered for sale for the first time here.
